Such a Pretty Fat: 1L Version

mess

I’m channeling Jen Lancaster here. Because I’m such a fan…and I think she gets me.
Fo’ real.
Weighing in at 174ish and trying to be healthier isĀ tough. The things I like to eat are actually pretty healthy, likeĀ broccoli and pasta and chicken…but then I add butter and make a white wine sauce and the entire meal is delicious now like 1000 calories per serving.Ā Which, I’m told, is not entirely good for me either. Life can’t be perfect, right?

Well, what if getting into shape didn’t have toĀ be so damn hard?Ā Or, at least, could be fun?
As a law student, you should just assume I’m competitive. You’d sure as hell be right, too! So you can only imagine how giddy I got when my AuntĀ bet money that she could lose more weight than I could in the next month.Ā Challenge. Accepted.Ā

I decided to kick off Spring with a DIET BET!Ā It’s a weight loss challenge where the winner gets some monies.Ā Losers are hopefully not as fluffy as before.
This is going to beĀ a greatĀ painful way to engage my muscles because, let me be clear, if studying made me ripped – I’d have rock hard abs by now. Alas, briefing cases only makes me smarter. Annnnd, since I haven’t gone to the gym more than 5 times this year, I’m basically a lumpy meat package.

My hope is that the $20,000+ pot (seriously, it’s a huge sum of money) will be part mine by the end of 28 days. I just have to lose 4% (or roughly 7 lbs) of my body weight in 28 days. Don’t you dare doubt me just yet. I can totally do this. It will be interesting to see how following an actual diet (consuming roughly 1300 calories per day), limiting my sugar and coffee intake, and working out will affect my performance in law school. This may be the worstĀ funniest idea I have all year…

Falling Out of Fit

I’m a foodie. If you’re reading this, you’re a foodie. I’ve found that the main problem with being a foodie is constantly battling your jeans, or worse…your bras! Honestly, I gain weight in odd places.

See: The Cooch Pooch
But truthfully…I loathe battling the bulge. It’s exhausting. I think I’m getting ahead and under control – then, seemingly out of nowhere – the pounds I’ve lost come creeping back.
Is anyone else being fat-haunted this holiday season?

I worked out three times a week. I was happy with my progress. I was finally feeling like I was getting somewhere. Then I wasn’t.
I was frustrated and annoyed with my own body. After a couple of weeks with no change, I finally realized what my problem was.
Me. I was my own problem. I’d gotten complacent, working out a few times a week and maintaining my eating habits. Though healthy, I was simply maintaining. I wasn’t working out hard, pushing myself or even running anymore. That’s the bigger problem.
I’d gotten so busy with my teaching role that I stopped working on myself. I put everything I have into my students and classroom, leaving little effort to work out and bring myself body peace.
It took a bit, but I finally realized I was at fault.

Ā

Are you a victim by your own hand?
If so, here’s what you do.

1. Smack that negative weak-sauce outta here.
2. Throw on some sweats and a sports bra (gentlemen – some exercise shorts and a sleeveless shirt to show off your sexy biceps)
3. Work out. HARD!

Trust me, you’ll feel tons better.
Then get home, take a cold shower and do it all over again, tomorrow.
Personally, I like to run at least two miles on the days when I’m not climbing. Sure, you need rest every few days, but the point is to not get complacent. Throw in an extra mile here and there.
Bust your ass, baby!

There’s no reason to fall out of fit. Keep up your own fitspiration. Remind yourself daily to bust that cheeky derriĆØre and get a move on.
Here’s one for you to remember for this week:

I love running and climbing, but I tend to balance these two with a really good Krispy Kreme Donut, now and again. Don’t deny yourself fun and goodies. Get some! But remember to keep healthy by busting that ass in a gym or in another similarly awesome fat-burning space.

Write it on your bathroom mirror so you can see it every day. You’ll thank me later.

XO,
Sarah

Spinning My Excuses

Be careful of the yeah-but. the yeah-but will kill your dreams. – Jeff Goins

It’s finals week, friends.

Oh, Peanuts – you always have it right.

Which means that I am trying to keep my eye on the prize. [and not let any “yeah-buts” get in my way.]
This means that I’ve been neglecting my blog [and you, my lovelies] because I’ve been drowning crying studying like crazy – well, maybe not so much. It’s been a mad CRAM the past few days.

So much has happened since my last post!

Update:
My birthday was April 23! I am now a “certified adult” [as proclaimed by my younger brother], a legitimate 20-something, instead of a young adult.
Twenty-four years old…it feels wonderful!

What else?

We’ve moved into a new apartment! It’s wonderful, quiet and has a gorgeous balcony. I’m in love with our new kitchen. Culinary greatness will be happening in there. I’ll be sure to post pictures, soon.
We’ve got oodles of decorating to do.
Ohmygooooodness!

It’s just been a wonderful ride. The beau got his first post-grad job! He earned himself some yummy chocoflan.

Check out SweetLittleCakes!

The boys ate these lovelies so fast that I wasn’t able to take a picture! šŸ™
Anyhow…there’s lots of fun and exciting things coming up.
I’m starting a VLOG! I’ll also be posting these recipes that I keep promising. Honestly, I have them all – I simply haven’t been able to code the drop-box and menu. I’ll get to it once finals are over.
I promise!

I’ve had enough of the “yeah-but” issues. No more excuses.
The gym has seen more of me these days too. 3 miles a day.
New goal?

15 pounds down by June 1.

What “yeahh-buts” are you letting run your life?
Kick ’em to the curb and gain some perspective.
Take back control of your goals and get at it!

Much love,
CC
