Icepocalypse…? Not So much.

Friday Morning Icecapades
Friday Morning Icecapades

The icemageddon hit Dallas on Thursday night. Sufficed to say, we had a four day weekend. Well…I did. The beau had to work Monday because the roads were better. Our school district (and every other one within a 30 mile radius) opted to stay toasty and at home on Monday.
Brilliant!

I should have graded papers. Meh.Maybe I should have worked on my final exam for next week…erm, no.

What did I do?

I worked out (seriously). And…we made mimosas.
That’s right. My family’s classy.
Then somewhere in-between, we slid to Starbucks and had disgusting soy gingerbread lattes, bu enjoyed each other’s company, managed to meet Mom for our posted Sunday Brunch and spent the lazy time cuddling because we had power, but some dolt ran into a pole – effectively ending our spree with awesome cable time.

Our weekend, in pictures:

We realized (at 8am, in way below-freezing temps) that the Beau's truck might not have anti-freeze in it...

We opted to warm up the truck, thaw off some ice and laugh at the ridiculous thought of walking to Target to grab ingredients for stew. Because, you know – I would totes be up for that adventure!

And…so was HE!

It was beautiful, but oh so dangerous ICE!
It was beautiful, but oh so dangerous ICE! Also…I look like a goober.

while at Target I had a particularly hysterical discussion with my Mother, who demanded spirits to keep warm. I seem to get my theatrical flair directly from her.
Hence…Mimosas! with our brunch.

Last minute, unexpected, and pretty darn tasty! Mmm!

We stayed tucked away in our apartment hidey-hole, went for some laps at our gym (on-site, soooo thankful!) on Friday and Saturday. We even ordered Thai food! Let’s just be glad these guys braved the roads. They were pretty terrible.

Our Sunday proved much more adventurous. We went to Breadwinners!

A beer for the beau and a Mexican hot chocolate for moi!

It was amazing. And, our appetizer because Mom was running late. :|

Our foodles were delectable. I could only eat half my plate, so we may just share next time.

the beau's yumminess
the beau’s yumminess – check out that pork belly!

Everything was wondermous and hit the spot, perfectly! Sigh…
On our way out, I spotted this little guy.

Devil Ingluconate!
Devil Ingluconate!

I was so full (and would have felt terrible) – leaving him behind was the best option. My jeans thanked me for it, later. Though Krispy Kreme has haunted me with their damn red light as of late. I swear! It’s always ON!

Gah. It was soooo great to have some time off to enjoy life. Don’t you just love those days?
We’ve got a little over one week left of classes and then my kiddos are off (as am I) to enjoy the winter break.
I’m loving every minute of this winter.

How about you?
What yumminess have you come across lately?
Most importantly, what Christmas party attire have you decided to don?

Moi?

Red Lace, frouffy sleeves and black pumps.
I’m gonna ROCK it!

Much love, CerebellumChef

Holiday Brunching

McKinney Ave
Chicken sausage, Broccoli & Onions all enveloped in a scrumptious scramble

I got to ring in my favorite month with none other than my Mama Bear!
We’ve had a long-standing Sunday Brunch date for the past few years just to catch up on weekly adventures and so I could vent about whatever wickedness my professors were throwing my way. -.o
We do our best to keep the date, but sometimes things get in the way.

This holiday season, I am thankful for such a wonderful year. This totes includes you, my wonderful readers! Thank you for sticking with me on my fitventures. Much love to you!

My family spent Thanksgiving in my neck of the woods this year and I luurved every. single. second. When the giggles, mini-munckins and hugs drove away, I was left all alone. this meant two things
1. I had plenty of peace & quiet to study for the GRE on Tuesday
2. There was an overstock of turkey but not nearly enough pancakes.
– Enter Mom.

She whisked me away to Breadwinners this morning for brunchy business.

I enjoyed the McKinney Ave. Mom munched on the Chicken Fajitas.
Which, oddly enough…weren’t really fajitas. They looked much more like chicken breast pieces. Nonetheless, she raved about it. Unfortunately, we both forgot that we usually share our dishes with the beaus, so we had lots of leftovers.

Sadly, the tortillas were sorely undercooked on Mom’s plate.
The McKinney avenue really surprised me though! I normally don’t like chicken sausage, but this dish swayed me completely! It was wonderful!

If you’re in the Dallas area, you’ve got to check this location out in Uptown!
A solid 4 out of 5 stars.

Now, lesson plans for my students and picking up the beau at the airport. He comes home today! YAY!
This week…adventures in getting rid of holiday weight.
Be sure to check in for some yummy recipes and several laughs (possible even snorts)!

Much love, Sarah

Falling Out of Fit

I’m a foodie. If you’re reading this, you’re a foodie. I’ve found that the main problem with being a foodie is constantly battling your jeans, or worse…your bras! Honestly, I gain weight in odd places.

See: The Cooch Pooch
But truthfully…I loathe battling the bulge. It’s exhausting. I think I’m getting ahead and under control – then, seemingly out of nowhere – the pounds I’ve lost come creeping back.
Is anyone else being fat-haunted this holiday season?

I worked out three times a week. I was happy with my progress. I was finally feeling like I was getting somewhere. Then I wasn’t.
I was frustrated and annoyed with my own body. After a couple of weeks with no change, I finally realized what my problem was.
Me. I was my own problem. I’d gotten complacent, working out a few times a week and maintaining my eating habits. Though healthy, I was simply maintaining. I wasn’t working out hard, pushing myself or even running anymore. That’s the bigger problem.
I’d gotten so busy with my teaching role that I stopped working on myself. I put everything I have into my students and classroom, leaving little effort to work out and bring myself body peace.
It took a bit, but I finally realized I was at fault.

Are you a victim by your own hand?
If so, here’s what you do.

1. Smack that negative weak-sauce outta here.
2. Throw on some sweats and a sports bra (gentlemen – some exercise shorts and a sleeveless shirt to show off your sexy biceps)
3. Work out. HARD!

Trust me, you’ll feel tons better.
Then get home, take a cold shower and do it all over again, tomorrow.
Personally, I like to run at least two miles on the days when I’m not climbing. Sure, you need rest every few days, but the point is to not get complacent. Throw in an extra mile here and there.
Bust your ass, baby!

There’s no reason to fall out of fit. Keep up your own fitspiration. Remind yourself daily to bust that cheeky derrière and get a move on.
Here’s one for you to remember for this week:

I love running and climbing, but I tend to balance these two with a really good Krispy Kreme Donut, now and again. Don’t deny yourself fun and goodies. Get some! But remember to keep healthy by busting that ass in a gym or in another similarly awesome fat-burning space.

Write it on your bathroom mirror so you can see it every day. You’ll thank me later.

XO,
Sarah
